Pearl Gunnerson collected spoons and lots of them. Her souvenir collection included sterling silver spoons depicting all sorts of subjects such as military, education religion, fairs, fish, native Americans and the world.

Pearl lived in Winter Park, Florida, where her grandson, Scott, would spend weekends. Since Pearl had limited mobility, Scott would do her legwork. In the 1960s, before he was 10 years old, Scott was sent to antique shops along Park Avenue with either cash or spoons to trade.

Pearl passed away Aug. 1, 1981. She was 86 years old. Then her son, Jerry, packed away the spoon collection. In 2017, while Jerry was getting his affairs in order, a consultant suggested getting rid of the collection.

That’s when Scott stepped in and began to take charge of the collection.
